Art Reach Youth Camp is organized by Youth Arts Movement Uganda (YAMU) .Our mandate is to ensure that majority of young people in Uganda have access to real global opportunities and free, safe learning environments where they can creatively express themselves through arts and education for their personal growth and social-economic development. YAMU operates a youth learning center in Kasubi-Nabulagala a slum community where children and youth come to share and learn from the various creative workshops including, Film production, Computer studies, Dance, Music, Poetry, Crafts and health education, leadership skills among other things. Art-Reach Youth Camp is one of our core annual programs that engage the youth in gainful outdoor learning experiences to learn, share while having fun.
We
are targeting junior and senior youths from primary schools,high schools and university students. We also
welcome youth groups, and youth organizations whose mandate is to empower youth
through education, sports, media, arts, creativity, promoting positive and
healthy living lifestyles among young people.
The goal of Art-Reach Youth Camp is to train and
equip over 5000 students and more with skills in media arts, cultural
creativity, Performing arts and survival skills every year. The camp provides an
opportunity to participants to experience different cultures, enhance their
creative abilities and equips them with new skills, make new friends while
experiencing new lifestyles.
This camp is run by a team of professional young people with proven creative and
leadership backgrounds under the leadership of Youth Arts Movement Uganda, Escape
to Adventure Africa and other partners; who have experience with camp
activities and youth innovative programs. This team contains of youth activists
as well as students from higher institutions of learning in Uganda who are
willing to share their knowledge and skills.
CAMP ACTIVITIES
The Art-Reach Youth Camp is an annual program, staged in different regions of the country. This Year, we taking
on the Central region, however we have also target participants from different
regions close by like Mukono, Jinja and masaka. Dates and venues shall vary depending on the
organizing committee. This year’s Camp program will be at Kaazi Camping site in
Busaabala and shall include the following activities;
Cultural exchange through Music, Dance, Art, public speaking and creative dialogues
· A Charity walk and concert
· Creative workshops in Film Production, Survival Skills and Leadership
· Competitions · A tour of various areas within and outside the campsite. · Career guidance and inspirational Speakers Daily “cognitive skills” activities taught through icebreakers or warm-up games using the daily skill. More rigorous application of cognitive skills through group tasks and hands-on activity “stations” (strategy games, riddles, tactile puzzles, etc.). · Personal portfolios: history, “Story of Me,” heroes, dreams for the future · Art, creative drama, music for self-expression · Wall of strengths and talent
· Low-ropes activities/team-building games · Team sports or group exercise (aerobics or yoga) · Film production workshops · Dance workshops · Cultural creativity · Challenge valley and jungle games. For survival skills. · Health education on key health topics. · Solid waste management · Nature walk and plant identification
